How Long Can Coronavirus Survive on a Surface?
It very much depends on the type of surface. SARS-CoV-2 survives 3 hours as an aerosol in air, but can last up to 72 hours on plastics (half-life 6.8 hours) and up to 48 hours on stainless steel (half-life 5.6 hours), 48 hours on wood, 4 hours on copper, 4 days on glass and paper, and a maximum of 24 hours on cardboard.
- 4 hours - copper
- 24 hours - cardboard
- 48 hours - stainless steel, wood (fridge, door handles, keys, cutlery, table)
- 72 hours - plastics (credit cards, plastic bottles, food containers, keyboard, mouse, ATM buttons)
- 96 hours - paper and glass (windows, letters, magazines, glasses)

How to Disinfect Surfaces?
Disinfectants should be applied on surfaces cleaned of small debris, if possible
- Spray a sufficient amount of disinfectant onto the surface.
- Allow the disinfectant to work for at least 30 seconds.
- Wipe the surface dry with a lint-free cloth or allow to dry.
Why Does the Disinfectant Contain Nanoparticles of Silver?
Silver nanoparticles are invisible for the naked eye, they are about 1 000 000 times smaller than 1 millimetre. The advantage of colloidal silver is that its nanoparticles have a positive charge. This means that they repel each other and are therefore in constant motion. At concentrations as low as 10 ppm, silver nanoparticles are more antibacterial than most antibiotics. Silver itself has been used since ancient Greece and Rome for its antibacterial effects. Silver is actually a natural antibiotic.
Today, silver in the form of nanoparticles is used, for example, in plasters to help wounds heal faster or in clothing to reduce odour when sweating. It can be found in the nanoSPACE antivirus gaiter, but also in cosmetics, where it is used, for example, for problematic skin with acne.
Disinfectants vs. Sanitisers
Although these names are often used interchangeably, there is a slight difference. disinfectants are primarily designed to quickly reduce the number of microorganisms to a safe level. They are commonly said to kill 99.999% of microorganisms within 30 seconds, but may not be able to completely sterilize a surface.
Disinfectants should in theory be more effective, but in practice their effectiveness is of the same order of magnitude as disinfectants. Special disinfectants can eliminate micro-organisms completely, but it depends on the use and exact dilution. In addition, they are quite aggressive. Therefore, always buy disinfectants and disinfectants designed for the desired purpose. The disinfectants and sanitisers we sell have proven efficacy and you can always find details in the product description.
