Photocatalytic coating FN NANO® 3 for indoor use and interiors

By painting the wall with a photocatalytic coating, you create an invisible nano layer that eliminates allergens, bacteria and viruses and cleans the air from odors. In addition, it remains snow white, does not stain and repels spiders. The coating is only suitable for indoor use. It is not necessary to apply it to all walls, just the ceiling and a selected wall where the sunlight falls are sufficient.

Product detailed description

This is a special coating whose protective functions are based on the use of the physical phenomenon of photocatalysis and on other physical properties of the materials contained in it. Unlike chemical preparations, the functionality of the coating is practically inexhaustible. Functional coating FN NANO® 3 is an aqueous suspension of patent-protected mineral substances with a high content of photoactive titanium dioxide (TiO2). The high content of TiO2 and the optimized mineral binder in the coating layer guarantee extremely effective protection of the substrate. It is also intended for extreme conditions in healthcare, industrial production and toxic operations. We supply it in a basic white form and it cannot be colored.

How Does Photocatalytic Coating Work?

Two common substances, such as air and dispersed molecules of smoke or viruses and bacteria in it, exist together without problems (e.g. in a smoky room). At the moment when a smoke particle touches an illuminated surface painted with a photocatalytic coating, it reacts with oxygen and oxidation, or burning, occurs (but the surface remains cool, this is a chemical reaction). The impurities in the air are then broken down into molecules of water  and carbon dioxide. Photocatalysis can be used to decompose organic allergens, carcinogens, viruses, bacteria, spores, but also to decompose exhaust fumes. Finally, even the most complex organic molecules are transformed into harmless simple inorganic compounds, such as carbon dioxide, water and the relevant mineral acids. Unlike various chemical preparations, the photocatalytic layer can also handle microbes, because it burns all organic matter without distinction.

The whole process is activated by daylight, therefore it is in interiors where the coating is used. It is important that daylight falls on the surface or that the room is lit by special light bulbs. The photoactive layer is porous and has a huge specific surface area. As the process is powered by light, it is inexhaustible compared to other preparations and does not introduce other substances into the environment, as is the case with disinfectants, etc.

 

What Can a Photocatalytic Coating Do?

Three Rules for Applying Nano Coatings - What to Watch out for

1) Always mix the suspension before applying it - when applying, ideally use a tub, not a bucket. If you use a bucket, it is necessary to have someone constantly stirring the suspension. Never let the coating stand for a long time without stirring. 

2) All layers must be thin - FN NANO are not covering coatings, they are functional coatings, and in order for the coating to crystallize properly, it is necessary that you always apply thin layers. Never simplify the job by deciding to apply two thicker coats instead of three. The coating should be thin. 

3) Never apply paint to waterproof surfaces and always apply paint at least 24 hours after painting

Appearance of Coatings

FN NANO®3 is white and has a relatively high covering power. The thickness of the coating layer is optimally 5-20 microns. The layer created is white and relatively soft, so we recommend applying the coating to the ceiling and surfaces where there is no risk of damage from abrasion.

The layer is active immediately after exposure to daylight or artificial light with a portion of the UVA spectrum. The maximum effectiveness of the coating is at 365 nm.
The coating is matured after 24 hours.

THE PHOTOCATALYTIC EFFECT IS PERMANENT, INEXHAUSTABLE AND DOESN'T WEAK OVER TIME. ALL PROTECTIVE FUNCTIONS ARE MAINTAINED DURING THE ENTIRE EXISTENCE OF THE COATING LAYER.

On the surface created by FN NANO® 3 coating, which is activated by UVA light, dirt, bacteria or other microorganisms do not settle thanks to photocatalysis. It is a highly effective technology for cleaning the air and reducing the risk of infection transmission indoors.

The optical properties of functional coating FN NANO® 3 are evidenced by the attached graph, where you can clearly see how the shielding efficiency increases dramatically, and you can also see high absorption of UV radiation, the energy of which is converted into a self-cleaning effect.

It serves to create an upper mineral active photocatalytic layer ensuring the function of air purification and reduction of microorganisms. The layer is white in color and is suitable for all common types of plaster and brick or plasterboard substrates.

FN NANO® 3 is certified as concrete protection.
It is not suitable for application to the substrate clay glue colors! It must not freeze!

Composition:

Aqueous composite suspension of untreated titanium dioxide and patented inorganic binders. It contains very high concentrations of 100-110 g/l of photocatalyst, which ensures its long-term faultless protective function as well as high self-cleaning efficiency. The coating is in line with European and global trends. Does not contain any organic compounds (ISO 16000, ISO 16100). The applied coating layer is absolutely safe.

Interiors

The functional coating FN NANO® 3 is used exclusively in the interior. It is used as a highly effective low-cost technology for cleaning the air from a wide range of pollutants and odorous substances. It creates a functional layer on the walls and ceiling, which, in addition to cleaning the air, effectively prevents the settlement of microorganisms. The product will be especially appreciated by those with various allergies, asthma, etc. This coating will help them create a healthier and cleaner environment.

The functional coating FN NANO® 3 can ensure a healthier environment both in areas where there are a large number of people (shopping centers, airport halls, office buildings...), and  at your home, in school facilities and in homes for the elderly. It is also a promising new technology for increasing the level of protection of patients and staff of medical facilities against resistant strains of dangerous bacteria and the spread of infections.
Our technology is also used in industrial operations to remove unpleasant odors and purify the air from dangerous substances. It will also find application in improving protection against unwanted microorganisms in food production and against the spread of diseases in animal husbandry.

Method of Applying Nano Coating FN NANO®3

Before each application, the coating must be thoroughly shaken in the package (30-40 seconds) in which it is supplied. Perfect shaking is necessary to achieve uniform mixing of the insoluble dust component in the coating. This is necessary to ensure the correct function of the protective paint layer.

It is important to keep the paint moving. In practice, this means that we only pour a small amount of already thoroughly mixed paint and only then apply it. Shake again before the next pour.
To achieve the appropriate appearance, we always apply the thinnest possible, but continuous and even layer, which we let dry completely before the next coat.

By spraying - optimally three paint (spray) layers. On smooth surfaces, the manufacturer recommends applying the coating by spraying to create a thin, even layer.

Applying with a roller, optimally in three paint layers, is suitable for practically all surfaces. Even application requires some skill.

Applying with a brush (for hard-to-reach places) optimally in three paint layers is suitable for hard-to-reach places, deeper diffusion of the active substance and for the treatment of surfaces that can be affected by mold, for example.

  • Well cover all areas that will not be treated with the FN layer.
  • The layer must be allowed to dry between individual applications.
  • Do not apply in the rain.
  • For a better effect, we recommend cleaning the surfaces thoroughly before applying the layer.

Do not apply to a water-repellent (hydrophobic) surface.

50-150 ml/m², typically 1 liter = 10 m² of protective surface in three paint layers. of the surface, we must expect greater consumption - on average 6-10 m² of painted surface from 1 l in 3 paint layers.

Minimum 2 years from date of manufacture at a temperature of 10-25 °C, in unopened original packaging. Before use, it is necessary to mix the mixture very thoroughly by shaking in the original packaging. Security

Observe the safety measures in accordance with the safety data sheet and valid occupational safety regulations. Keep out of reach of children. Do not eat or smoke while working with the coating. Use a respirator or other suitable equipment for respiratory protection when spraying. Do not inhale spray mist, use safety glasses and hood or other means to protect eyes, face and skin. In case of contamination, rinse the area thoroughly with water and treat with cream. In case of irritation, seek medical attention.

Waste Disposal

Deliver the used empty packaging to the packaging waste collection point.
Deposit the packaging with product residues at the place designated by the municipality for the disposal of hazardous waste or hand it over to a person authorized to manage hazardous waste. Follow the rules in the safety data sheet and local ordinances.

How do FN NANO coatings work?

The main effective component of FN NANO products are photocatalytic crystals of titanium dioxide (TiO2). After exposure to sunlight, they are activated and – in cooperation with oxygen – create a strong oxidizing environment in their surroundings, which decomposes organic molecules into oxides of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur and water.

The high efficiency of coatings in the form of coatings is ensured by a patented binder that increases the functional area of the TiO2 crystals to the maximum. It prevents the further settlement of microorganisms and at the same time protects the substrate on which they are applied from UV radiation.

FN NANO preparations do not contain any organic substances and are not dangerous for the environment.

Choose the coating according to the material of the wall and the intended function.
